Job Title:                  Senior Production Engineer

Main Purpose

Provide production engineering leadership and technical expertise in support of assembly. This includes quality and cost improvement through lean, value engineering and value analysis. Lead the teams in optimizing existing processes and efficiently introducing new products and processes.

Design and implementation of processes to improve efficiency and quality of mechanical and electronic product build to reduce the quantity of daily issues associated with build and delivery.

Provide day to day rapid problem solving and following through with necessary documentation changes.

Liaising with the Engineering department to resolve issues

New Products:- As required, will be responsible for supporting new product introduction, from pre-production to full product release. Working with Engineering Project Teams, NPI Technician, production and supply chain in the successful transition of new product designs and small projects into production.

Delegate for Principal Engineer when they are not available


Duties and responsibilities


Production Engineering Support

· Enhance the capability of existing processes by removing waste – e.g. over processing, high set up times, rework and bottlenecks.

· Use data, and problem solving techniques, to identify improvements in safety, quality, and cost to assembly processes.

· Utilize Value Analysis /Value Engineering techniques to improve product and /or process

· Introduce best practices through continuous improvement tools to minimize manufacturing costs.

· Collect real data on issues to drive the correct solution

· Design tooling to improve manufacturability of products.

· Assist with introduction of new products to bring into manufacturing efficiently.

· Introduce new process equipment and techniques to optimize efficiency and output. Assist with identifying and justifying capital equipment investment.

· Take a leading role in process and production improvement initiatives, both as a member and / or leader of improvement Team

· Attend appropriate training as required.

· Train and develop individuals and teams as required

· Maintain all appropriate records.

New Products (As Required)

· Support pre-production project, to full release new products and small projects into manufacturing, in conjunction with engineering, production and supply chain.

· Provide DFM (design for manufacture) input on NPI projects to design engineering team

· Track and report on process time, yield, manufacturing problems and ensure all documentation (Work instruction, Bill of materials, routings etc) and assembly tooling are in place prior to product release

· Ensure costs (labour time etc.) targets are met.

You are responsible for working within the company Health and Safety Guidelines at all times.








HNC/ HND or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline

Technical apprenticeship

Electro/mechanical qualification




Proven management skills in either a Manufacturing Engineering or Production Engineering role.




Previous experience




Practical Production Engineering/ Process improvement related experience in a technically demanding manufacturing environment.


Special aptitudes




Keen, enthusiastic, self motivated and willing to drive/ accept change.


Able to influence and deliver change at all levels of an organization.


Good communication skills, both written and verbal at all levels


Well organised, efficient and works well under pressure/ tight deadlines

A desire to progress and grow in the organization.

Role may involve some international travel. Willing to travel (UK and internationally) when required
